Review: Hyapeptide Anti-Aging Solution @ Kew Organics
Everybody knows the key to smooth and youthful skin is plenty of collagen.
Collagen is a kind of protein made up of a long string of amino acids. When this string of amino acid breaks down, the dislodged amino acid links are called peptides. Just because it is “broken” does not mean peptides are useless. They continue to function as active mini molecules that act as a signal to skin to make more collagen. Peptides can be produced from within or applied directly. Peptide application tricks the skin into thinking it has lost collagen and need to produce more. In fact, peptides are what goes into our anti-aging creams which we pay a lot for.
I tried Kew Organics’s Hyapeptide Anti-Aging Solution facial treatment to witness a visible difference to my complexion. Coupled with a cocktail of Australia’s cult brand Organic Black Chicken Remedies skincare products, this 90-min organic facial session uses a patented micro-dermabrasion technology of medical grade polymer that is hypo-allergenic and suitable for even the most sensitive skin.
Located at Everton Park (closest MRT station: Outram Park), Kew Organics is one of Singapore’s award-winning organic facial spas. Despite being located in a residential neighborhood under a HDB block, this facial bar is a spa-goer’s sanctuary. There is an element of calm and serenity that immediately eases the senses; prepping one for the upcoming hour-long (or two) of facial treatment heaven.
Hyapeptide Anti-Aging Solution treatment combines 3 main intensive steps in one session. This is what to expect.
Step 1: Fruit Acid Peel
Skin is prepped by brushing on a thin layer of gentle, yet active complex of organic fruit acids. Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) derived from organic fruit acids effectively break down the bond that holds dead skin cells together. This makes it easier to slough of dead skin cells, loosen dirt and makeup residue and clear clogged pores. This part may sting a little due to the active acids but it does not last more than a few seconds.
Step 2: Surface Skin Micro-dermabrasion
After the peel, the loosen dead skin cells are micro-polished away using a patented technique known as ‘poly-abrasion’. Poly-abrasion is a medical grade polymer that operates without heat or crystals – an advanced technology that is gentle and effective. It is a hand-held device with a specially formed abrasion crown that goes over every inch of your skin, clearing and refining the surface layer.
This step is followed by the usual pore extraction that I love. The therapist will meticulously travel all over my face to extract oil seeds and blackheads. It can sting a little and temporarily redden some areas of the skin, but the end result is clean pores and satin-finish skin.
Once the surface layer of the skin is cleaned and prepped, work begins to the deeper layers.
Step 3: Epidermal Stimulation & Reactivation
To start, a layer of serum is applied on the entire face. Using another handheld device of micro-needles for collagen activation, this technology opens the top layer of the epidermis gently and painlessly for immediate delivery of active ingredients to skin’s deeper layers. This is the next generation of skin needling that is FDA approved, non-invasive with no downtime. The needle head is micro-fine and guaranteed not to traumatize, tear or scar the skin.
If the mere mention of the word needles make you queasy, you’re not alone. I was extremely apprehensive during this step and had images of Kim Kardashian’s blood facial flashing in front of me. I literally checked, double-checked and tripled-checked to ensure this step will not draw a single speck of blood. To my relieve, it only felt like a very rough small piece of sandpaper massaging the skin. In some strange way, it was therapeutic.
[Side note: See the red patches on my skin after the extraction? Notice the difference when I finish my treatment – refer to below photos]
After stimulating and reactivating the skin’s epidermis layer with serum, the facial is immediately followed up with a ultra-relaxing facial massage. The kind that has you drifting into deep sleep before you even know it. A true sweet spot of facials.
The facial ends with an intensive high performance peptide lifting mask, also known as the holy grail of anti-aging. At the end of the session, I was surprised that the red patches (which I got from the facial extraction process) on my face was gone. My skin was glowing and looking radiant.
The therapist recommended I use hydration-based skin products for the next week and to notice my complexion 3-days post facial. Here is my photo of 1 day and 3 days post facial.
While all skin types can benefit from this treatment, this facial is most ideal for people suffering from enlarged pores, skin scarring (from acne and chickenpox), oily skin and fine lines and wrinkles.
A session of this Hyapeptide Anti-Aging facial treatment is $260 for 120 minutes.
