Review: Aveda Pure Abundance Style-Prep

I was excited to hear about Aveda’s newly launched Pure Abundance Style-Prep. The name of the product doesn’t tell you much but it is essentially a voluminizing spray.

Keeping to Aveda’s philosophy of holistic wellness, this prep spray was created to give hair the kind of volume that feels natural. A botanical blend of passion fruit, aloe vera leaf juice, rice bran, acai oils and acacia gum; it infuses hair with all-day weightless volume and detangles without the tacky feeling. All ingredients are naturally-derived and can be traced back to the farm or harvesting co-op to ensure fair compensation throughout the process.

Hair volume is created with natural corn-derived polymer that gives every hair strand the hold for body that is suppose to last all day.

How to use: Shake bottle well. Spray on slightly damp hair. Comb, blow-dry and style as usual. You can also use this on non-shampoo days. Simply activate volume by spraying unto dry hair, comb and re-style.

My take: If effortless volume is the look you want, then yeah…try this because Aveda’s Pure Abundance Style-Prep is exactly that. If you are expecting super volume, ultra messy sexy with the just-out-of-bed look, you cannot use this on its own. For “fuller” and more textured body, combine Aveda’s Pure Abundance Style-Prep with a volumizing hair spray, hair toner or a matte-textured hair clay.

Hair feels slightly thicker. My, otherwise flat and limp, hair had the kind of easy volume I could pass off as natural and light. I like that it does not make my roots greasy and I do not have to wash my hair everyday. The best thing about this spray is how it smells. It has a pleasant herbal citrus aroma that smells so good.

I tested Aveda’s Pure Abundance Style-Prep on its own. In the Before and After photo, you can already see a difference in the overall hair “body”.
