Review: Apivita Propoline Balancing Shampoo For Very Oily Hair

It’s been a while since I reviewed a really good shampoo. One that not only smells great, does the job it says and is made from a high percentage of natural ingredients.

This review is on Apivita’s Propoline Balancing Shampoo for Very Oily Hair.

Apivita has a huge Propoline range of 16 types of shampoos, each catering to a specific need. From tonic shampoo for thinning hair to shampoo for oily roots and dry ends, it would be hard-pressed not to find a suitable shampoo for just about anyone.

The philosophy of the Propoline range of shampoos is: For every problem, there is a natural solution. A magical combination of the invaluable by-products of bees such as honey and propolis; and natural essential oils infused together as the main ingredients.

Made with 81% natural ingredients, this shampoo for very oily hair uses specific ingredients such as  propolis, thyme, nettle and natural lipoaminoacid to effectively reduce sebum secretion.

It is developed with Apivita’s innovative hair strengthening technology called Bio Cotton Protection System – using the combination of cotton, oligosaccharide (natural simple carbohydrate sugar found in plants) and arginine (natural amino acid) to improve hair texture and elasticity by forming a protective shield on hair’s cuticle against environmental damage.

Although my hair and scalp condition is not categorised as very greasy, but I do get oily roots if left unwashed for a day.

I’ve used this shampoo for a week. Here’s what I think.

#1: Smells good. A strong sweet scent of thyme, nettle, rosemary and peppermint. It is quite therapeutic massaging this shampoo into my hair and scalp because of its relaxing and soothing aroma.

#2: Lathers well. No foam helmet with this shampoo! It lathers up smoothly with just the right amount of foam for a super clean wash.

#3: Super squeaky clean. This shampoo rinses off easily and leaves my hair seriously squeaky clean. Yet, my hair and scalp doesn’t feel stripped of its natural oils.

#4: Light-weighted & fresh. My hair is noticeably lighter in weight and the fresh scent of peppermint lingers on when my hair is dry.

#5: 81% natural. This shampoo is dermatoligically tested and free of harmful chemicals: Parabens, Silicones, Mineral oil, Propylene glycol, Ethanolamines, Colorants, Phthalates, Polycyclic musks and Nitromusks.

#6: Rosemary water. All the water content in this shampoo is formulated with organic rosemary water.

#7: Unique packaging. The sturdy dark brown bottle is so easy to handle and use, especially when you have soapy slippery hands. The bottle cap clicks open to an opening for steady control on the amount of shampoo poured.

#8: Soft and shiny.  Most shampoos formulated for very oily hair tend to strip the hair and scalp’s natural oil. Not this one. After one wash, my hair is incredibly soft and shiny. To prove this, look at these photos. My hair is twisted up in a clip to show you how softly the hair falls over without any dry fraying ends. Also, notice how brilliant the colors of my highlights look. PS. There is (absolutely) no product in my hair. It’s only just been washed and air-dried!

This may not be my everyday go-to hair shampoo because I don’t have very oily hair. But if greasy hair and roots sounds like you, then you must try this shampoo. For me, I’d reach for this on days when I am looking for a seriously deep hair cleanse.

This shampoo retails for S$30 per bottle of 250ml and is available at Apivita boutique outlets at VivoCity (#01-04) and ION Orchard (#B3-45)
