Dress Sense: The Eco-Friendly Dress Shop

Got a big night coming with nothing to wear? Dress Sense, at Raffles City Shopping Centre, is a boutique I discovered with a wide selection of rent-able cocktail dresses, evening gowns and accessories for every body shape and size.
Gone are the days when rental dress shops were seen as dingy places offering sweat-stained recycled outfits. Nowadays, you can rent upmarket ultra-luxurious handbags, jewelry and elegant evening gowns for those special star-studded occasions (heck! you can even rent a baby as an accessory these days).

To be honest, the idea of renting a gown used to turn me off. But when I went to Dress Sense and tried on their outfits, I realized it is quite the opposite. Their gowns are pristinely maintained, and their jewellery are sterilized all the time, every time.

You can dress like a star without emptying your bank account. Dress Sense is a multi-label boutique that carries a large international collection of red carpet designer clothes and accessories such as Jovani, Faviana and Inge Christoper. These brands have been worn by Hollywood celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Angelina Jolie, Katherine Hiegl, Paris Hilton, Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Lopez to name a few.

Adding to the practice of businesses supporting green businesses, Dress Sense sends all their gowns to a green and eco-friendly dry cleaner that uses all-natural cleaners, instead of the usual petroleum-based solvents for their dry clean services. These chemical solvents release harmful and toxic pollutants in the air when exposed, and have potential carcinogenic properties. This makes their gowns and dresses wearable even for women with sensitive skin.

7 Fabulous Reasons to Rent Your Dress
#1: Makes dollar sense. You don’t have to splurge big bucks on a dress. This reduces wastage and resources making it an eco-friendly alternative.
#2: Saves closet space. You don’t have to worry about where to store your dresses and gowns.
#3: Dress & accessorize under one roof. Choose the right dress and go mad accessorizing right on the spot.
#4: One-of-a-kind dress. Save the embarrassment of seeing someone else wearing the same outfit as you.
#5: No repetition. If you are a socialite or love having your photo taken publicly, there is no worry about being caught twice in the same outfit on different occasions.
#6: Ample time to rent and return. Two week gown rental. This gives you lots of time to custom fit the dress and return after use.
#7: Option to purchase. If you love it, you can buy it.

Dress Sense Lookbook of Summer 2013: Cocktail Dresses
This lookbook showcases 4 cocktail dresses available this summer. Suitable for special occasion parties, company functions, movie premiers and event launches. Even on a hot sexy date!

Cocktail Dress #1

Go on a hot date with this stylish toga bandage dress. This is a highly wearable and versatile style for most women, making a great statement for sexy, simplicity and elegance. Its stretchable viscose-blend material and fully pinched-stitched sides gives shape to a modern silhouette. Attention to detail goes to the sophisticated floral sequin detail on the shoulder strap.

Dress: Nicoletta Floral Sequin Shoulder Toga
Jewelry: Kendra Scott Cuff Bangle, Wanderlust + Co Ring
Bag: Inge Christopher Clutch
Suitable for: Most body shapes. This classic toga style is especially great for women who want to flaunt their arms or upper body.
Style tips: Attention should be placed on the shoulder strap details. If you have long hair, put it up in a loose bun off to one side (preferably the side of the shoulder strap as attention will be placed on this side). You don’t need much to accessorize this look. Just a few simple standout pieces like a designer bangle, a signature ring or a shimmery clutch bag.

Cocktail Dress #2

Bring sparkle and sophistication to any event when you wear this scintillating sequin dress. The sleeveless and simple scoop neck with mesh see-through open back exudes high elegance and class. You can wear this dress down with minimal accessories, or you can seriously bling the look up with diamond jewelry to complete the look.

Dress: Faviana Stretch Tulle Full Sequin
Jewelry: Wanderlust + Co Ring & Bracelet, Roberta Chiarelle Earrings (with Swarovski stones)
Bag: Whiting & Davis Clutch
Suitable for: This sleek and sequined cocktail style is especially great for women who have a good neckline, small hips and straight waist. This dress adds curve to straighter shapes with different sequin detailing on the upper and lower halves.
Style tips: Don’t tie up your hair with this dress. With its simple scoop neckline, you want to let your hair down straight or with soft curls. You can pair this dress with a dark matte (or shiny) clutch to give contrast to the look.
Dress-A-Like: Paris Hilton, socialite and television personality

Cocktail Dress #3

Looking for a flirty cocktail dress? This black jewel-embellished number does not disappoint. It has a full-fitted bustier support top that is accented with big jewel stones and a lightly ruffled skirt on the bottom. The skirt length stops above the knee making this a super cute, lively and playful number.

Dress: Jovani Jewel Embellished Cocktail
Jewelry: Wanderlust + Co Bracelet
Bag: Whiting & Davis Clutch
Suitable for: Most body types. This little black cocktail dress that looks great on everyone.
Style tips: Keep it simple. Let your hair loose and pair this look with a few pieces like a simple shiny clutch, a diamond tennis-bracelet, jeweled earrings and classic black heels.

Cocktail Dress #4

This is one of my favorite dresses. It is super feminine, romantic and sexy – and in not the usual tight-fitting and skin-showing ways. This full-length dress gives a soft silhouette with a 3-tier see-through chiffon layer on the bottom half to accentuate height by showing leg length. If you are going for the whimsical look with comfort wear, this dress is a great choice.

Dress: S.Nine Claudia Tri-Tier Gown
Jewelry: Liquid Metal Necklace and Bracelet
Bag: Inge Christopher Clutch
Suitable for: Most body types. This dress is especially great for tall women with a good neckline.
Style tips: Tie your hair up. The shoulder strap ruffles accentuate the shoulder and neckline beautifully, so don’t cover it with hair. To add contrast to the feminine style of the dress, choose simple accessories like metal to punk up the look.

Evening Gown #2

This gown definitely has the wow factor. Not just for its vibrant cosmic yellow floral print and sleek satin fabric, this empire gown is cut and stitched in ways that screams sex appeal. Be a sexy goddess and turn heads with this colorful confident number.

Style tips: Go mad with colors. This floral print goes well with brightly colored gems and stones, especially natural sunset colors like yellow, green, orange and red. Pair it with a cute camel-colored mini hard-case purse, gem-stoned watch and earrings. If you have long hair, let your hair loose with big flirtatious curls.

Evening Gown #3

This classic gown is beautifully detailed with crystal beaded straps, a V-neckline and ruched bodice. The triangular side cut-out gives an instant slimming visual illusion. Best part of this dress? The sexy crystal beaded strap double cross back design and lovely turquoise shade.

Gown: Faviana Cut-Out Chiffon Gown Gown with crystal straps
Jewelry: Wanderlust + Co Clutch & Ring, Roberta Chiarella Earrings (Swarovski stones)
Suitable for: Most body types. It is a great gown choice if you want to create the illusion of a smaller waistline.
Style tips: You can dress this look up with lots of bling or dress down with a few signature pieces. For this photo shot, we went for an edgy contrast. The dress was paired with a pair of 3-drop diamond dangle earrings, flower design ring and a signature hard case purse with skulls and tiny blue stones.

Evening Gown #4

Pull out the red carpet because this dress is meant to be on it! This stunning red gown is going to turn heads. The fitted bodice with strapless V-shaped neckline is clinched to the waist with jeweled beads, and drops waist down with a high-low hemline with strips of flowy chiffon overlay.

Gown: Faviana Strapless Hi-Low Gown with pleated bustier
Jewelry: Wanderlust + Co Earrings
Bag: Whiting & Davis Clutch
Suitable for: Most body types. If you have great legs and want to show them off (from the front), this dress is the perfect choice.
Style tips: You don’t have to accessorize much because the color of the dress is so striking. All you need is a gorgeous pair of chandelier earrings and a simple bejeweled clutch to finish the look. This dress is best worn to events held outdoors where there is lots of breeze, wind and movement because the overlay chiffon strips fan out beautifully when you walk.
