Review: Neal’s Yard Remedies Jasmine & Ylang Ylang Body Oil
Up until now, I have always moisturized my body with lotion. My initial impression when asked to review a body oil sounded a little too greasy for my liking. Little did I know, I was in for a mindset shift.
Not to be confused with massage oils, body oils are specifically formulated to nourish and soften the skin. Neal’s Yard Remedies Jasmine & Ylang Ylang body oil is made with a blend of essential oils combined with a skin softening base. Its ingredients include organic sunflower seed oil, organic jojoba seed oil, apricot kernel oil**, organic calendula extract, organic ylang ylang (cananga odorata flower) oil, jasmine oil, organic mandarin orange peel oil and organic bergamot peel oil.
It is also 100% free from mineral oils, parabens, silicones, genetic modification, synthetic fragrances or colors.
Note its 20% fair-trade apricot kernel oil** content. This ingredient is sourced from producers in developing countries for the intended purpose of achieving better trading conditions and promote resource sustainability. In this bottle, fair-trade apricot kernel oil is from the Karakoram Mountains – a large mountain range spanning the borders of Pakistan, India and China.
How to use: Apply sparingly on dry or slightly damp skin after shower.
My take: Soaks right into my skin! Don’t be surprised if you find yourself using a lot per use because this deep nourishing oil can be easily described as super absorbent. The floral scent of jasmine and ylang ylang is so strong, it instantly hits the senses and conjures up all things oriental.
Once absorbed, most of the scent lingers away leaving just a hint of floral aroma. One caveat: The body oil comes in an open top glass bottle. Oil pours out freely. Best be careful when applying. I find it helps to focus on one part of the body at a time. For example, pour a little on your palm and apply on your arms. Then repeat and apply on your legs and so on. The key is to not over-pour. Skin should feel soft and matte (not glossy).
It also has a Best Before Date printed to ensure the natural and organic ingredients used to make this body oil is at its best efficacy. But what I really like is its waterproof matte label. I know it sounds weird but when you are dealing with an oil-based product, the last thing you want to deal with is oily finger patches on an ink-smudged label. I have had oil dripping down the side of this bottle and the label still looks brand new.
Frankly, one bottle will probably not last very long if you use it daily. Treat yourself to a luxurious once a week full body moisturizing oil treatment. You will get about 1-2 months use or 6-10 applications per bottle. If you want to stretch its use, apply only to dry areas or parts of the body you want scented.
This newly launched body oil retails at $42 per 100ml bottle and sold exclusively at Neal’s Yard Remedies, Millennia Walk (#01-75) outlet in Singapore. A perfect gift for Mother’s Day!
