Review: Nature’s Gate Acai Velvet Moisture Body Wash

This is my first eco body wash review.

I don’t normally splurge on body wash simply because I don’t see the need to shell out big dollars for liquid body soap. But, I have noticed Nature Gate’s brand of personal care products on several retail shelves, and I was out of body wash. So I picked up this bottle.

Nature’s Gate is a 40-year-old American brand of natural and affordable personal care products. Started by two friends, Leo and Vladimir, they create natural personal care product by hand collecting rainwater and combining botantical, herbal and floral ingredients into its formulas.

Using all natural herbs, Nature’s Gate products are paraben free, sulfate free, phthalate free, EDTA free and synthetic fragrance free.
Here’s my review of Nature’s Gate Acai Velevet Moisture Body Wash.

For an eco liquid soap, this body wash gives great lather – like any other body wash you will find on the shelves. It cleans very well, without stripping moisture. I don’t get the dry tight skin feeling when I dry off.

This could be because this body wash is infused with rich anti-oxidant berries, nut oils and butters.  The blend includes Shea Butter, Sweet Almond Oil, Apricot Kernel Oil,Soybean Oil and Camu Camu.

Looking at the ingredients, it is mainly made with water and coconut-derived by products such as Cocamidopropyl, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate and Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate.

There is a range of Nature’s Gate body wash available but I choose the Acai Berry one. Acai berries (kinda look like blueberries) are found deep in the jungles of the Amazon rainforest and prized for its anti-oxidant and free-radical fighting properties. Even my favorite Dr. Oz is a big fan.

Unfortunately, I found the soap scent too sweet for my liking. If you like your body soaps with a strong sweet fruity smell, you’ll love this. Imagine biting into an over-ripen sweet peach or apricot and it oozed out its juices in a gel-form all over your body, that would be pretty close to what this body wash is like.

The good news is: For an eco-friendly all natural body wash without the harmful chemicals, Nature Gate’s Acai Velvet Moisture Body Wash does not come with a bank-breaking price tag.

For example, Nature Gate’s body wash (532ml) sells for $15.90 per bottle. Compare that with Neutrogena Rainbath 16oz (473ml) that sells for $16.15 per bottle – one of my all-time favorite body wash, but it is not without harmful chemicals. So, when you compare the two, Nature Gate’s body wash is worth a try for the budget-conscious shopper.

Retail price: S$15.90 per 532 ml pump bottle

Available in various organic and natural boutique stores island-wide. I bought mine at Dragon D’or Cosmetics at Old People’s Park, Blk 32, #03-1126, New Market Road in Chinatown. I have also seen Nature’s Gate product range stocked at NTUC Finest (specifically Marine Parade and Bishan) at their organic section.
