2013 Year in Review: Kat’s Best Products Reviewed

Time of the year again to weed out the bad and talk up the good. After the success of last year’s 2012 Year in Review: Kat’s Best Products Reviewed, I am following on with my best finds this year.

You may be wondering – why makes the cut of ‘Kat’s Best Product Reviewed‘? If the product is good enough that I would recommend to my closest friends and family members, it makes the list. ‘Nuff said. Here we go (in no particular order).

#1: Best Hair Mud: O’right Free Mind Mud
This green and eco-friendly hair mud is simply one of the best I have ever used. Not only does it do a fabulous job giving volume to my limp hair; it doesn’t weigh it down. The product is made from clean energy generated from solar and wind power! Free of parabens, silicones and propylene glycol, this hair mud really puts sexy back (to your hair!).

#2: Best Foundation Cream: Elishacoy Always Nuddy CC Cream
This is more than just a foundation cream. It is a multi-functional cream with over 10 uses from whitening to hydration. Made from organic ingredients like black bean extract and cranberry fruit extract, this Korean CC cream is light and gives your face that dewy complexion.

#3: Best Deodorant: Human Nature 100% Natural Premium Deodorant
Time and time again, I keep coming back to this deodorant. It is simply one of the best eco-friendly deodorant I have ever used without the nasties – no parabens, no aluminium salts. It is extremely affordable (at S$4.90 per bottle), rolls on clean, doesn’t stain and smells like baby powder.

#4: Best Toner: Le Château du Bois Tonic Lotion
No other toner uses the healing and skin balancing power of pure lavender extract as well as Le Château du Bois’s tonic lotion. Made from 10% aqua, 10% organic farmed-harvested lavender extract and 10% organic rose flower water, this aromatherapeutic toner – when used daily – seriously cleaned and cleared my skin’s complexion.

#5: Best Exfoliator: Coast to Coast Coastal Rejuvenating Facial Exfoliant
Personally, I am addicted to this facial exfoliant. First, it is made with everything organic – organic aloe vera extract, organic bamboo extract, organic macademia oil and organic jojoba oil. Second, it smells amazing! Truly a facial spa experience in your shower. Third, I love its eco matte-textured packaging; making it great for day-to-day handling and travelling.

#6: Best Moisturiser: Evolu Protective Day Cream with SPF 15 & Recovery Day Cream
I am usually fussy about moisturiser. It cannot be too thick and heavy or too watery and light. It is especially hard to find a good cream consistency that is suitable for a tropical humid climate like Singapore. Blended with New Zealand’s spring water and 100% pure essential oils, these moisturisers are free from parabens, petrochemicals, mineral oils, phthalates, sulphates, artificial colors or fragrances, and animal by-product.

#7: Best Moisturiser: Margherita Ghel Renewing Cream
2013 is the year of moisturisers for me. This renewing cream is another fabulous eco-friendly face cream that is free of parabens, mineral oil silicone, artificial colour and perfume. The true power of its main ingredients (daisy extract and aloe vera extract) was tested when I brought it with me on a beach vacation. The skin healing and renewing properties of this moisturiser visibly saved my skin from vacation woes of too much sun and too much sea salt water.

#8: Best Serum, Moisturiser and Eye Cream: BioNike Defence Elixage Contour, Defence Elixage Elixir and Defence Elixage Satin
Luxury in a bottle. In all fairness, I have only tested this range in a drier and cooler climate like Canada and Australia. And I have to say, this super expensive and luxurious range worked wonders for me. With no preservatives, no fragrance, no gluten and nickel-tested, this range is specially designed to protect and nourish the most sensitive skin. If you have ultra sensitive skin, this is where you need to invest.

#9: Best SPF Protection for Face: Apivita Suncare Antispot Face Cream SPF50
What makes this product interesting is that it is made from 77% natural ingredients, and all of its water content in the product is derived from organic green tea infusion – to boost the anti-oxidant properties of this face protection cream. Due to its high SPF factor, this cream is slightly thick, although it is not unmanageable and uncomfortable on the skin. Great for everyday wear or a beach holiday.

Best Multi-Purpose Skin Treatment Cream: Natural Alternative Certified Organic Paw Paw Ointment
This treatment cream is so amazing that I had to specially squeeze it into this year’s review. Paw Paw ointment is known as a multi-purpose topical balm for most skin ailments from minor cuts, dry cracked skin, eczema, sunburn, heat rash and bruising, amongst many others. It is made from 100% natural papaya fruit extract and evidently worked wonders on my bruise which has completely disappeared after 3 days!

This year, many readers have written to me about skincare advice, recommendations and general feedback. I am so grateful to have connected to you all.

Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
