Run For Hope Singapore 2012 Event

Run For Hope (RFH) Singapore is back again!

Singapore’s single largest charity fundraising annual event with a singular mission in mind: to support cancer research.

Spearheaded by Four Seasons Hotel & Resorts and Regent Hotel Singapore, and with the support of National Cancer Centre Singapore, RFH Singapore 2012 hopes to raise funds to aid and strengthen local research capabilities. This is so cancer patients can benefit from the research sooner.
RFH Singapore 2012 will be held on Sunday 18 November 2012 with two new exciting routes to choose from. Even if you don’t run, come walk for the cause!

In the past, cancer research takes an average of 8 to 10 years to go from basic science to clinical setting before treatment becomes available to patients.
What started as a small running event with only 300 runners 18 years ago in Singapore, has grown close to 10,000 participants last year. Running alone has raised almost $3million USD for the cause. This funding has helped, in a large part, to shortened that timeline by almost half! Talk about making a difference.
More than 10,000 people in Singapore are diagnosed with cancer every year. And the numbers just keep rising. Today, cancer accounts for 1 in 4 deaths. It is the #1 killer in Singapore. Whether you are diagnosed with cancer, or someone you love or someone you know, everybody is touched by cancer in some way or another.
Running History of Run For Hope
In 1978, a man lost his 18 year-old son to melanoma cancer. He was no ordinary man.

His name is Isadore Sharp, founder of one of the world’s most famous luxury hospitality brand, the Canadian-based Four Seasons Hotel & Resorts.

During that same time, another Canadian man by the name of Terry Fox, aged 22, lost his leg to cancer. He started running across Canada trying to raise funds and awareness for cancer research – achieving the seemingly impossible. A year later, having gone through multiple chemotherapy treatments that destroyed his immune system, Terry Fox lost his life to pneumonia.

Convinced that more needed to be done, Isadore Sharp took inspiration from Terry Fox. He started organizing runs to raise funds for cancer research in cities where his hotel and resort properties are located. Run For Hope (RFH) is a legacy that this extraordinary man left behind for more than 30 years.

Choose Your Route
There are two new routes to choose from.

For 3.5km, the run route is around the Marina Bay. If you are looking for a leisure and scenic run/walk, this is the one to sign up for. Starting at The Padang, you will run past The Float @ Marina Bay, Esplanade Theaters on The Bay, Merlion Park, The Promontory @ Marina Bay, Marina Bay City Gallery, Marina Bay Sands and over the Helix Bridge -Singapore’s first pedestrian bridge.

For 10km, the run route is along the Marina Bay and Kallang River Running Trail. This is for serious runners who prefer a straight route along the Kallang Basin, rather than taking in the beautiful cityscape of Singapore.
