Hom Yoga Orchard Launch Event

Today is Hom Yoga’s grand opening of its flagship studio along Orchard Road. And I was there to attend its very first hot class in this ‘green‘ boutique concept studio.

The new Hom Yoga Orchard has two large yoga rooms with ceiling-to-floor windows overlooking the hustle and bustle of Orchard Road. The space is designed with a New York warehouse feel – with high lofty ceilings, pristine white walls and lots of mirror all around. The change rooms and showers are bright, spacious and spanking clean. Major plus point!

Walking into class, I settled into one of the newly laid out mats at the back corner of the class. The sun-lit room was huge and fitted with about forty mats. A tad tight for my liking – but its probably because I took the corner mat. Nevertheless, I managed to keep within my space, and not touch hands or feet with my mat neighbors.

Oh…and it was hot! Within minutes, my face was a deep crimson red, and I was dripping sweat into my eyes and lips. I perspired so much that – I spent most of the time mentally beating myself up for not bringing a bottle of water to class. Ah…another detoxifying day at the yoga studio. If you are looking for a hot yoga studio, this is a great place to start!

4 eco-reasons to go to Hom Yoga Orchard
1. First studio in Singapore to use Far Infrared Technology (FIR) heat. FIR heat is a new form of thermal technology that is energy efficient, and produces sun-like heat that penetrates deep into the human body. This activates major bodily functions and helps to boost cellular metabolism
2. Uses organic timber wood flooring
3. Uses energy efficient lighting and heating systems
4. Uses non-toxic, ecologically friendly cleaning products

Founded by Malvina Risky, a former Miss Singapore Universe 1st runner-up, Hom Yoga Orchard is located on the 6th floor of Orchard Central (Somerset mrt station). This is the 3rd hot yoga studio under her belt. Standing at a tall 1.72m, this young and successful entrepreneur wears many hats – as a yoga teacher, designer and cause advocate for women’s interest and environmental issues. You can read more on my interview with her here.

Hipwidth: Hom Yoga’s new yoga apparel collection
Besides celebrating the opening of it’s convenient downtown location, today is also the launch of Malvina’s new yoga apparel line – Hipwidth. An amazing collection of mix and match tops and bottoms for yoga! How cool is that?! I’m a strict Lululemon girl. But I must say, I have a pair of Hipwidth 3/4 pants (thanks Malvina!) and they are amazing. They absorb sweat really well, and are not as thick as some of my lulus. Here are some random snaps of the Hipwidth fashion show.
