10 Ways to Celebrate Pantone’s 2013 Color of the Year: Emerald Green

As year 2012 winds down and Tangerine steps aside, a new year begins with fresh energy in the frenzied world of fashion and beauty. Like the Oscars of colors, Pantone LLC has become the standard of color forecasting; giving the world a kickstart to a visual direction for the next twelve months of our lives.

And the color of 2013 has been awarded to…Emerald!
Woohoo! Green happens to be my favorite color
Green is the colour of nature, growth, renewal, healing and richness. This luscious color sets a natural and eco-loving mood to our sense of wellness and being. Balance, peace and harmony is the theme this year.
Here is my top 10 must-haves to embracing the precious emerald in you; starting with the super luxurious to the everyday things we all love and desire. As Oprah once said ‘You can have it all. You just can’t have it all at one time’. Dear Oprah, thank you for giving us inspiration and hope.
So let’s begin.
#1: Tiffany Emerald & Diamond Ring

It’s the time of year we (some lucky few) receive hard-earned bonuses. Got money to splurge? I start my list with this super gorgeous lord of all luxury rings. If the Dark Lord Sauron (Lord of The Rings) had a wife, this is the ring she would wear to rule and conquer the rest of woman-kind with sickening envy.

#2: Lorraine Schwartz 115-carat Emerald Earrings

In 2009, Angelina Jolie wore this pair of Lorraine Schwartz 115-carat Colombian teardrop emerald earrings to the Oscars, and it became the talk of Tinseltown. Worth over USD$2.5million, pieces of emerald such as these babies are not even seen within museum walls.

#3. Go Gel. Go Green.
One of the easiest ways to change your look is to paint your nails. And there is no better way to keep them long-lasting than to go with the latest type of nail polish…gel. In the past, green nail polish was hard find. But today, I am sure there will be more than 50 shades of green to choose from. Remember: Go green with natural nail polish brands like Priti, Zoya, Butter London and Sante. Want to know more about vegan nail polish? Click here.

 #4. Pandan Chiffon Cake
My childhood favorite cake is the light and fluffy pandan chiffon cake, made from the fresh juice of the naturally aromatic leaves of the Pandanus plant. This cake is popular in South-East Asian countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam and Thailand. Celebrate 2013 special days like birthdays and anniversaries with a delicious pandan delight. Looking for a Pandan Chiffon Cake recipe? Here’s one from Epicurative.

#5. Go Red Carpet Green

Turn heads and stand-out like the stylish Julianne Moore in this Tom Ford emerald number. Be different and bring green to the red carpet; or to a friend’s house party. In the new year, green is the new black.

 #6. Shoulder on with Green
In 2007, Katie Holmes was photographed around town with her new-born baby Suri in one arm, and a green Balenciaga Vert Gazon Giant Bag in another. This apparently caused a huge frenzy in the world of handbag lovers. Since then, the bag went into hiding. Katie probably knew that she was on to something good.

#7: Lounge in Many Shades of Green

The coming of a new year is a great time to revisit the state of your cushion covers. Are they old and tattered? Washed-out and fraying at the ends? If yes, then it is time for a change. You’ll be surprised how quickly and fast the change of your cushion covers can add to the tone and mood of your home. Choose different shades of green or natural patterns with green highlights, to exude the soothing richness of nature to your home.

#8. Get an Office Plant-panion
Want to green-up your workspace and office? Buy a pot of indoor plant. Plants are great for aesthetics reasons, but more so, they add a sense of calm, warmth and life to your space. Far East Flora has a good selection of what they call – Table Gardens, cute portable potted plants for all spaces.

#9. Make it up in Green
Who ever thought that Poison Ivy would, one day, be a trendsetter with her vamped up green eye makeup? Maybe in 2013. Try natural mineral makeup without the harmful chemicals for your skin. Apothéke, a Singapore-based organic mineral makeup brand, has an earthy brown green eyeshadow infused with gold shimmers, called Goldleaf. How pretty?!

#10. Veg Juice
Deep, dark green leafy vegetables provide the most benefits of juicing. They provide the richest source of alkalinity, organic hydration and ingestible essential minerals. Green veggie juice is the most potent natural source for bodily detoxification and cellular renewal. Next time you are craving for a fruit juice, veg it instead.

There is no better time to go GREEN
