Girl Talk With: A Blogger Who Knew Nothing About Blogging

Kat Julyan
36, Blogger

Singaporean-born Kat Julyan never imagined she would one day be known as a blogger. Three months ago, blogging seemed like a distant world of computer language gibberish. Today, the power of <html> has completely changed her take of the communication world – forever. Armed with a Masters in Business Administration degree, this self-confessed natural beauty and skincare junkie lives a life of many great ambitions. The story behind Kat Juju began…literally with, a couple of freckles. Here is an e-interview by the team at Singapore Blog Awards 2012.

How do you feel about being one of the finalists in Singapore Blog Awards 2012?
Unbelievable!  I never expected to get to this level so early on in my blogging experience. I am so honored and very grateful ♥

When did you start blogging?
I started Kat Juju three months ago in March 2012. I have a great passion for skincare and lifestyle wellness, and I wanted an avenue to communicate my thoughts and opinions. Coupled with the fact that when I was growing up in Vancouver, I spent many years watching Oprah. I love everything that she stands for on her show. I am immensely inspired by her and, in some way, I try to emulate her – in blog form.

What drew you to blogging?
I wanted to inspire and empower women. And I wanted to do this with information, stories and sharing of ideas. Combined with my love for natural and organic skincare products, this blog allows me to have a voice.

Where do you get inspiration for your blog content?
People often come up to me suggesting interesting blog content. I love it! A good example is my story on ‘Are Singaporeans Ready to Pay-For-Plastic Bags?’ That came to me so unexpectedly. I was out one night with friends, and one of them approached me. He wanted to know my thoughts on the debate for pay-for-plastic law. Not knowing much about it, I immediately went home and did some research. A few days later, I wrote the story. This post ended up being one of my favorite posts to-date.

How do you feel about the other Finalists in your category this year? How do you think you will fare compared to them?
I am so thrilled to be a part of this group of talented and passionate bloggers. It was interesting to visit each of their blog sites. We are all so different (in terms of our content-focus, writing style, etc). Yet, there is a great sense of passion we all seem to mutually share for blogging. As for how I will fare compared to them for the Panasonic Eco Best Lifestyle Award…well, of course there is no contest – Kat Juju wins!

Give a reason why readers should visit your blog and vote for you?
If I could give just one reason for people to vote for me, it would be to support the cause. The cause to live a more wholesome lifestyle. One that reduces our global carbon footprint, connects us closer to the gifts of the Planet, and to ourselves.

I am not a treehugger. But if I can help change lives, by giving good eco-friendly information and ideas to make a difference, that would be the greatest award.
