Recipe: Longan, Red Dates & Goji Berry

If you are trying to conceive, and have been told by your Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) physician that you have a cold uterus or womb, this is the drink for you.

Quite similar to my previous recipe (read here on ‘Red Dates & Longan Tea‘), the difference here is the addition of Goji berries.

Goyi berries are red cranberry/raisin-like berries filled with vitamins and antioxidants. They have a slightly sweet flavour when boiled. It is a yin tonic which is said to boost sperm production amongst many other health benefits – so even your partner should be drinking this drink!

The combination of red dates, dried longan and goyi berries is said to replenish vital energy and improve blood circulation. Which in turns, warms the womb.

Serving: 2-3 cups

15 dried longans
30 dried red dates
handful of dried goyi berries
organic raw brown sugar (optional)

Dried red dates

Dried longans

How to cook
1. Bring about 1litre of water to boil.
2. Rinse all the ingredients together.
3. Once water starts to boil, add in the ingredients.
4. Bring to medium heat and simmer for 15-20 mins.
5. Add brown sugar. Adjust sweetness to your taste.

One trick my grandma taught me to bring out the flavour of the red dates: After rinsing the dates, get a small paring knife, and make a small slice half way down the middle. This allows the dates to boil open, maximising the release of all its nutritional goodness.

This drink is also good for insomnia, and best to have before bed.

Here is another simple boil you can do at home, read Red Dates & Longan Tea to improve blood circulation, digestion and overall well-being. You might also be interested in The Benefits of Red Dates.
